Partners, Venues and Supporters
We are keen to celebrate, recognise and shine a light on the venues, partners and supporters we have worked with in the past and who we are working with at the moment, who have helped us on our journey as an emerging theatre company. The Human Zoo Theatre Company relies on these incredible supporters and partners in order to continue to create and tour work, and we are keen to maintain an ethos of sharing these relationships with our audiences and supporters.
We are a Supported Company at New Diorama, who have supported and programmed our work on numerous occasions, providing us with opportunities to show our work in London at no cost to the company, and through their Cash Flow Loan funding, which enabled us to head to EdFringe 2016.
BRIDGE HOUSE THEATRE @ Warwick School
We have recently partnered with Warwick School's Bridge House Theatre to begin to facilitate and host their youth work, and to create strong relationships with students and audiences in Warwick to continue to share and develop our work at Bridge House and to support Warwick School's prestigious drama training (both curricular and extra-curricular).
Pound Arts Theatre
We have developed a close relationship with Pound Arts, who first programmed our work as part of their 'Magic and Mayhem' festival in October 2015 where we performed 'The Girl Who Fell in Love With The Moon' and appeared on local television station 'Corsham TV' as part of the documentation. We are continuing to develop new engagement opportunities with Pound Arts for 2017.
Lee Simpson -
We have recently become a Supported Company at Greenwich Theatre, where we have enjoyed two successful London runs of 'The Girl Who Fell in Love With The Moon' and 'GIANT'. We hope to continue to develop work with this prestigious venue, who also supported our run at EdFringe 2016.
Caterham School is a local Independent School to the company, and we have toured our work here since 2013. Since then, we have developed an ongoing partnership with Caterham School, allowing Human Zoo to access rehearsal space/ support-in-kind in return for facilitating workshops both for Caterham's own students and the wider community. Caterham School have recently built a new arts centre on campus, which Human Zoo are supporting as Associate Artists as the school begin to programme more professional work. Human Zoo are currently delivering an exciting new programme of professional work for the first season at ArtsHouse.
Pleasance Theatre Trust
The Pleasance have supported our work both in London and Edinburgh since we won the Les Enfants Terribles Award 2014 with our debut play, The Hive, offering up financial support to help us visit EdFringe for the first time. Since then, they have supported us with London previews opportunities in Islington, and with continued support and mentoring of our work through our visits to EdFringe for three consecutive years. We are very grateful for Pleasance's championship of our work and their help and support in helping us to build our audience in a tangible way, during one of our busiest months of the year each time we visit Edinburgh.
Chris Grady is a creative life support coach working with sole traders and small businesses, across the creative arts and the wellness industry, nationally and internationally.
His ongoing mentorship and championship of Human Zoo has helped the company to grow and develop in all areas. We highly recommend getting in touch with him if you think your project/ company/ personal practice could do with a little bit of input from somebody whose life work has been to enable creatives to develop and reach out with their work. His kindness, warmth and depth of knowledge knows no bounds and is always well-pitched, practical and timely!
Lyric Hammersmith commissioned and supported our first outdoor piece 'Monotone Man', providing rehearsal space, tech support, build support and mentoring for this ambitious project. The venue has since supported our indoor work by providing us with rehearsal space during the R+D process for 'GIANT'.
Arts Council England
We have worked with ACE National to create two of our touring productions, Monotone Man and GIANT. This funding makes up a sizeable part of our core project funding as a company, and our projects wouldn't be possible without the financial support and guidance of Arts Council England.
Les Enfants Terribles
Les Enfants Terribles provided us with an invaluable platform to get a foot on the ladder when we were just beginning to make and tour work. Their award enabled us to take The Hive to EdFringe with Pleasance in 2014, and since then they have offered us valuable creative and producing mentorship throughout our development as a company.
We are delighted to say that Oli Langsley also attended the same secondary school as 4 of Human Zoo's core team, which makes this mentorship feel very special in documenting the incredible state-school drama department we were fortunate to access during our time as students. This is where we first experienced LET's work, which used to preview at our drama studio. It was these formative productions which helped give the Zoo Animals the ambition to produce and tour our own work. (Corny, we know). Now, they are an Olivier-nominated theatre production company, having produced Alice Underground and Twits Dinner in association with The Vaults, Waterloo.
