Today started with a positive burst of energy; perhaps from the anticipated excitement of meeting our new cast member or I suppose it could also have been all the coffee? Either way we were feeling very silly and happy as we warmed up to some token Beyoncé and Libby's hilarious dance moves. Everyone's flexibility has already improved greatly, with Nick actually receiving a clap today for being able to touch his toes!
Ready to seize the day, we were each allocated individual tasks for the morning; to create a specific sequence relevant to our character that could later be supported by the group. This included an exploration of my character's technophobe tendencies travelling across the set, a nonsense conversation between Flo and Roz, and an exploration of how to make Folarin look as though he had 6 arms by adding two people behind him. It turns out that in practical terms that just means three people having to grind on each other in very close proximity and resulted in sweet nothings being whispered into each others ears, but that's a story for another day! Today we had more exciting things to be preoccupied with, like greeting the new addition to our team! It was brilliant to see Hedley again and we couldn't wait to start slotting him into the piece.
This happened in a much more literal sense than we had imagined, as he was slotted in between the boys to be the middle body in the three-boys, six-arms scene. We're not sure why we started his day with such an intimate exercise but I think it's safe to say that boundaries were broken down pretty quickly.
We then moved on to learning Libby's Fosse-inspired movement sequence, which proved easier said than done with some very quick footwork! Hedley however had no trouble picking the routine out. Turns out he was actually trained in movement at the Brit school, which he conveniently forgot to mention when we asked him to come and be a part of our very physical show. But of course this didn't surprise us...because this is Hedley. The same Hedley that during an audition for our other clowning show, only mentioned when directly asked that he had actually done clowning before, and that in fact it was the style that he did his final piece at drama school in, otherwise we would have been blissfully unaware. The same Hedley that told us he had a "boring job", until probed further, when he casually revealed that his job was to "shake glue in little tubes in a basement. But, I mean, it's not actually glue, it's more like DNA...I guess you could call me a scientist" !!! Anyway I think we can all say that this fantastic new addition to our team really put the icing on the cake when, at the very end of the day when asked if he was ever called anything for short other than Hedley, revealed that his name is not actually Hedley, but Jimmy!! Thank you for making us laugh so much, and we will leave you on this note; perhaps we are all secretly Jimmy's at heart. Happy Saturday! Love Fleur 🌸
